Garmin G1000 Chosen For Citation Mustang

Cessna Aircraft Company has announced that Garmin International has been chosen to supply the Citation Mustang's avionics. The G1000, Garmin's all-new, integrated glass cockpit, will provide Citation Mustang operators with the best combination of technical capability, field reliability, and customer support. The panel configuration will include three glass displays, two 10-inch PFDs, with a 15-inch MFD at the heart of the panel.

The G1000 will be on display this summer at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture 2003 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Additional information and specifications will be available at that time. "The capabilities of the G1000 are tremendous. We were extremely impressed with Garmin's new technologies. Because many of our customers are stepping up to the Mustang from single engine and turboprop airplanes, it's essential that the system be easy to use. We found the simplicity and technology we were looking for in the G1000. The avionics package will allow the Mustang to hold true to Cessna's hallmark of offering the easiest airplanes to fly in the industry," said Charlie Johnson, President of Cessna Aircraft Company.

"Since the Mustang is a totally new design, we’re honored that Cessna has chosen a revolutionary avionics system to complement this exciting bizjet," said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s director of marketing. "Mustang owners will get the maximum benefit of quality, service and value — passions we have in common with Cessna — in our leading-edge G1000 integrated avionics suite."

Garmin’s all-glass flightdeck in the Mustang will be an impressive sight, but they say it’s what is behind the beautiful displays that really sets the G1000 apart from other avionics systems. The lightweight, modular design and open architecture continue Garmin’s tradition of technology innovation. All information — from aircraft attitude and air data to engine instrumentation, real-time weather data link, traffic and terrain — is uniquely integrated and digitally depicted on the dual large-format PFDs and MFD to simplify operation, enhance situational awareness and increase flight safety. The brilliant color TFT displays on the G1000 system boast XGA (1024x768) resolution with wide viewing angles and clear sunlight readability. Additionally, the G1000 will include the following:

  • Dual digital audio control panels
  • Dual integrated radio modules that provide WAAS-capable IFR oceanic-approved GPS;
  • VHF navigation with ILS;
  • and VHF communication with 16-watt transceivers and 8.33-kHz channel spacing
  • Dual Mode-S transponders with Traffic Information Service
  • Dual solid-state Attitude and Heading Reference Systems
  • Dual RVSM-compliant digital air data computers
  • Three-axis digital Automatic Flight Control System
  • Four-color digital weather radar
  • Integrated Class-B Terrain Awareness and Warning System with worldwide terrain and obstacle database

The G1000 integrated avionics system delivers mission-critical capabilities, ease of use, reliability, flight safety, low cost of ownership and overall value that are symbolic of the Citation Mustang.

The G1000 system's lightweight modular design and open architecture maximizes flightdeck efficiency, eases pilot workload and offers unprecedented situational awareness for traffic, terrain and weather using the latest in integrated technology. "We are excited to be the avionics supplier for the Citation Mustang and thrilled to be working in partnership with Cessna. We share Cessna's commitment to customer service and product innovation and look forward to not merely satisfying, but delighting Mustang owners for many years to come," said Dr. Min Kao, President of Garmin International, Inc. The Mustang will be certified as a FAR Part 23 aircraft, with a cruise speed of 340 knots, and maximum operating altitude of 41,000 feet.

Cessna anticipates type certification in mid-2006 with first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter 2006.
