Obama Bus Tour Results In Rolling TFRs

North Carolina And Virgina Pilots Would Be Well Advised To CAREFULLY Check NOTAMS Through Wednesday

President Obama is on the road this week promoting his jobs bill, but his chosen method of transportation could spell problems for pilots who are not careful about checking NOTAMS along the route.

North Carolina TFRs

The President is on a three-day bus tour through rural communities in North Carolina and Virginia, prompting the FAA to issue a rolling set of TFRs along the proposed route. The first of the restrictions goes into effect Monday at 1830 EDT in Greensboro, NC, and then progresses along the proposed route through Wednesday at 1500 EDT in Hampton, VA. A total of five VIP NOTAMS have been issued as of Monday morning to encompass the proposed route of travel.

Virginia TFRs

As you might imagine, the list of times and boundaries for these TFRs is long and convoluted. Anyone planning to operate a private aircraft over the next three days in the area between Greensboro, NC and Hampton, VA would be well advised to very carefully check the NOTAMS along your proposed route of flight. The consequence for not doing so could be an up-close view of an F-15 Eagle and a lengthy discussion with authorities after landing.
