Indoor Skydiving Set To Open In NE Florida

iFly To Open To The Public In Jacksonville Wednesday

For those who might like to experience skydiving freefall without having to actually jump out of a airplane, iFly will be opening its latest location Wednesday in Jacksonville, FL.

The facility near St. Johns Town Center is the fifth iFly location to open in Florida and the 39th in the United States. There are 74 iFly locations worldwide, according to the company.

The Jacksonville Business Journal reports that iFly managing partner Chester Schwartz said in a news release that the company is "beyond excited" to be opening in northeast Florida to "share with everyone the sport of body flight."

Construction of the $10 million facility began early in 2018 and was completed ahead of schedule, according to the report.

According to the company website, the experience lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, and includes instruction and flight gear. Instructors are certified by the International Bodyflight Association.

The actual flight takes place in a patented vertical wind tunnel. "It's just you, a smooth cushion of air, and a sense of freedom you've never known," Schwartz said.
