Airborne 11.08.21: HI 737 Recovered, Tamarack v NTSB, Astro-Delays

Also: SUN n’ FUN Holiday Fly-In, CAF P-51, Lightspeed Survival Kit, Martha’s Scholarship

The NTSB has successfully completed the recovery of TransAir flight 810 this past week…

They retrieved  the remains of the Boeing 737-200 that ditched after the flight crew reported anomalies in both engines shortly after takeoff from Honolulu on July 2, 2021. The only occupants of the aircraft, the two pilots, survived. After the ditching, the majority of the plane’s wreckage came to rest about 400 feet deep. Tamarack has disputed the findings of probable cause in the NTSB’s final report of a 2018 crash of Cessna Citation N525EG.The Board faulted Tamarack’s Active Winglet system, alleging that the crash was the result of an “asymmetric deployment of the leftwing load alleviation system for undetermined reasons.” Tamarack states that forensic evidence collected in the course of the investigation proved that the load alleviation was indeed functioning correctly and deploying symmetrically upon impact. NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 mission now is targeting a return to Earth around  10:33 p.m. EST Monday, Nov. 8, with a splashdown off the coast of Florida. The Crew Dragon spacecraft, named Endeavour, is scheduled to undock from the International Space Station at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, to begin the journey home. Mission teams decided to adjust the Sunday, Nov. 7, undocking following a planned weather review showing high winds unfavorable for recovery near the splashdown zone in the Gulf of Mexico. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
