Minnesota Airport Offers Unique Ground Transportation

Drive Away From The Grass Strip In A Retired Police Cruiser

Transient pilots landing on what is describes as "one of the nicest grass landing strips in the state" of Minnesota who might want to take a trip in to town have access to a pretty sweet ride.

The City of Milaca gave a retired Dodge Charger police cruiser to the Milaca Airport (18Y) for use as a courtesy car.

The Charger is available on a first-come, first-served basis to pilots who need to travel locally from the airport. Local pilots and volunteers developed the use policy, as well as cleaning and servicing the car, according to a report in the Mille Lac County Times.

Airport Commission chair Ken Muller said at a recent meeting of the Milaca City Council that a corporate executive from Dollar General Stores had inquired about the availability of a courtesy car for a planned visit to a recently-opened store in the area. At the time, the answer was "no," but now, he says, the airport can say "yes", which may help boost business at the airport.

The airport is also looking at attracting an FBO to the field.
