FAA Cancels NOTAM on Camp David Restrictions

Please Don't Fly Through The Reduced-Size Zone

The FAA on Sunday reduced the prohibited airspace around the Presidential retreat at Camp David (MD), to a 3-nm radius.

"Although the burden on pilots has been reduced, it is absolutely imperative that we respect the prohibited area and stay clear," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "There may be less airspace affected, but security officials remain deadly serious about protecting Camp David."

The AOPA notes that, "On current charts, P-40 is depicted accurately, but the 2-nm ring between the edge of P-40 and the dashed blue line is no longer restricted, contrary to the information in the "caution" box printed nearby."

Pilots should still be aware that whenever the President visits Camp David, officials plan to expand restrictions to at least a 10-nm-radius area. AOPA believes the 10-nm radius offers ample protection with the least possible economic and airspace disruption and will oppose any efforts to make the restricted area larger.
