Aero-TV: Desert Jet’s Fight - Local Government Imposes Unexplained Road Blocks

Desert Jet Center Fights To Be Heard…

Desert Jet Center has been trying since 2015 to build a new facility at Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Palm Springs, CA, but has run into multiple delays, and now believes the county is actively favoring a competing FBO in what it describes as "cronyism".

The story of what is going on at the airport is detailed in five parts, with the sixth part coming soon, on the Desert Jet Center website. Denise Wilson, president and CEO at Desert Jet, told Aero-News CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell at NBAA-BACE that the total price tag for the project is about $5.5 million. She said that the issue seems to be the "undue influence for personal financial gain" on the part of the county.

Desert Jet Center is comprised of three businesses; a charter business and a maintenance company, which rely on the new facility, which is being blocked. There is also an FBO, which has been in business for about a year. Wilson said the effect on the company has been that there is a perception that they are not able to finish their project, which has hurt business. The company has filed two federal lawsuits against the county of Riverside because of the damage to the business, and to force them to allow Desert Jet Center to finish their project.

Wilson is asking the aviation community to review their website, www.thermalairport.com, outlining their side of the story, and then contact the county officials to express support for the business.
