Jeppesen To Provide USAF With iPad-Based EFB Services

Air Mobility Command Will Use FliteDeck Pro To Streamline Critical Flight Information Access

The U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command has entered into an agreement with Jeppesen for iPad-based electronic flight bag (EFB) services for approximately 1,160 Mobility Air Force aircraft, and more than 16,000 related Air Force iPad users. The Mobility Air Force aircraft will be equipped with Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro, the EFB solution that streamlines the use of navigational information for military fleet programs and commercial aviation operators.

“Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro will now provide mobile data and flight information for the Mobility Air Force fleet, across Air Mobility Command, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard operations,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen president. “We are pleased to team with the U.S. Air Force to support essential mission-based planning, navigation and operational programs through our iPad-based EFB services.”

Mobility Air Force fleet aircraft that will be equipped with Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro on iPad include C-5, C-17, C-130, KC-10, KC-135 and multiple executive and operational support aircraft. In addition to vector-based Jeppesen terminal charts, FliteDeck Pro includes data-driven enroute content, which is dynamically rendered and de-cluttered for the pilot’s current needs.  Information for all enroute and airport charted features is available, including communication information, operational notes, current weather conditions and airport runway details.

All data and information will be centrally managed by the global Jeppesen Distribution Manager Pro (JDM Pro) secure network for the U.S. Air Force. Flight information, including worldwide civilian and military navigation charts and terminal procedures is delivered to the Mobility Air Force aircrew through the JDM Pro enterprise solution. This scalable data management solution distributes encrypted operational data and documents efficiently across a Web-based system, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of current navigational and operational information to pilots and other users.

Full Jeppesen content is resident on the EFB, which eliminates the need for online connectivity while in the air. Database updates involve “changes only” content replacement, which drastically reduces database update times. The elimination of paper-based flight information through FliteDeck Pro services further enhances operational efficiency and situational awareness.
