Aviation Unit At Fort Drum Confined To Work Area

Week-Long Lockdown Follows Discovery Of Missing Inventory

An aviation unit at Fort Drum in New York State has been locked down for days following the discovery that $50,000 worth of equipment was missing.

According to a report in the Watertown (NY) Daily Times, the unit went on lockdown a week ago Monday, and was still confined to the work area as of Saturday. The unit is the 277th Aviation Support Battalion 10th Combat Aviation Brigade made up of as many as 100 military personnel,

Tenth Mountain Division deputy spokesman Maj. Josh T. Jacques said that while he would not specify what was missing, it did not include firearms, ordinance, or aviation components. He said that the missing items pose "no threat" to the public.

He did say the unit would remain on lockdown until the missing inventory was found of "all search measures area exhausted."

A blogger in the area writing on blog "Godlike Productions" says that, according to someone he knows in the unit, the missing inventory includes bayonets and scopes, which could be classified as weapons. That report was unconfirmed.

As of November 25, there had been no report that the lockdown had ended.
