Airborne-Unmanned 01.16.18: AUVSI Trusted Operator, Typhoon H Plus, Intel

Also: Drones Tracking Illegal Dumping, Arctic UAS, Airspace Situational Awareness, TrueView R20

AUVSI has announced the appointment of leading industry stakeholders to serve on a steering committee and as brand ambassadors who will develop the Trusted Operator Program (TOP) for remote pilots and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) training organizations.

AUVSI launched TOP in November, to facilitate best practices, codes of conduct and professionalism for operators of services provided by UAS, also known as drones. Yuneec International has announced the second generation of its proven six-rotor hex platform, Typhoon H Plus. The second generation of Typhoon H features Yuneec's all-new, larger, highly stable six rotor hex airframe. The vehicle offers a 40 percent reduction in noise from previous hex models, and stable flight in winds up to 30mph. Typhoon H Plus is equipped with a high aperture one-inch sensor camera capable of 20 megapixel stills and 4K resolution video at 60fps. The new model also boasts an improved low-light performance compared to previous models. Remember the drone light show presented at the Super Bowl last year? Though pre-taped (an FAA TFR prevented the show from being presented live), it was pretty impressive. The show was executed by Intel Shooting Star drones, and in a keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company said it has developed a variant of the swarm drone that is safe for indoor use. But unfortunately, you can't buy one. The "Shooting Star Mini" can locate itself in space without using a GPS, according to the company. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
