Boeing To Intensify Technical Career Development For Engineering Workforce

New Engineering Training Centers To Be Phased In Across The Company

Boeing says it is implementing a plan to renew its focus on the company’s engineers worldwide by dedicating the first two of new Engineering Career Development Centers that would serve as training grounds for its technical workforce.

Over the next year, leading up to Boeing’s 100-year anniversary in 2016, the company will open a dozen of these centers at major sites around the company. The first two opening today are in Huntsville, Alabama, and Long Beach, California.

The plan is part of an initiative called Engineering Central, which represents the community of technically focused professionals working within various parts of Boeing, and the strategy to provide world-class development and training for them.

“As our people continue to develop their capabilities and knowledge, Boeing will become an even stronger and more competitive company in our second century,” said John Tracy, Boeing chief technology officer and senior vice president of Engineering, Operations & Technology, who oversees engineering within the company. “We have always been a company that values the career growth and development of our people. With Engineering Central, Boeing is intensifying its pursuit of engineering excellence.”

In addition to opening the new training centers, the strategy calls for emphasizing the use of several employee development resources, such as Boeing’s Learning Together Program, a comprehensive corporate education and tuition assistance program. Employees pursuing most engineering-related programs at approved university partners are eligible to have their tuition and other education expenses paid by the company.

Boeing has long offered a wide range of technical development resources and training programs through which employees may expand their capabilities, as well as prepare for professional certifications. Engineering Central and the network of Career Development Centers will build upon these resources to better integrate effective technical career development.
