In Memory of Larry Flynn

President, Gulfstream Aerospace

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Larry Flynn, 71, passed on from a remarkable and well-lived life on 12 April 2023. A former president and vice-president of Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and General Dynamics respectively, Mr. Flynn made a distinguished and memorable career of his lifelong passion—the aerospace industry.

Mr. Flynn joined Gulfstream in 1995 and ascended steadily through the company’s ranks, retiring in 2015 as the corporation’s president. Prior to joining Gulfstream, he managed six FBOs in a vice-presidential capacity at Stevens Aviation. Mr. Flynn served, also, as regional vice-president and general manager for AMR Combs.

During his Gulfstream tenure, Mr. Flynn helped lead the plane-maker’s successful bid for the 2014 Collier Trophy, which was awarded to the G-650. In 2020, he was inducted into the Living Legends of Aviation. In his time, Mr. Flynn held numerous consultative roles, serving on the advisory boards of Duncan Aviation and Heads Up Technologies.

A diehard Jayhawk, Mr. Flynn earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in manpower management from the University of Kansas.

Equally inspirational in his family life, Mr. Flynn was a devoted husband for 41-years and a loving father and grandfather. His character was defined by patience, humility, generosity, circumspection, a keen sense of humor, and an uncanny ability to bring joy to those around him.

Mr. Flynn was an avid boater and a seasoned and impassioned traveler who delighted in traversing the wide world with his wife and family. A profound, powerful, and beloved presence in the lives of all who knew him, Larry Flynn will be sorely and forever missed.

Mr. Flynn is survived by his wife, Sarah; two daughters, Kathrine Morehead and husband Ron of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kelley Young and husband Adam of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren Grayson, Jack, Ella and Joe; step-grandchildren Renee and Emme; and siblings Jerry Flynn, Jim Flynn and Pam Sullivan—all of whom will continue to honor his legacy by living each day to the fullest and putting family always and joyfully first.

To honor his memory, there will be a celebration of Mr. Flynn’s life on 17 April 2023 15:00 EDT at the Spanish Wells Clubhouse, located at 1 Brams Point Road, HHI, South Carolina 29926. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West Michigan Aviation Academy.
