JSF Program Deputy Director To Speak At AFA Air Force Breakfast Series

Speech Comes Shortly After Senator McCain Questions The Program's Cost Overruns

The Air Force Association said Wednesday that Major General C.D. Moore II, Deputy Director for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program Office, will be the guest speaker for the July session of the AFA Air Force Breakfast Program, to be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 0700 EDT at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel in Crystal City, VA.

The Joint Strike Fighter Program Office is the Department of Defense's agency responsible for developing and acquiring the F-35A/B/C, the next generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and many allied nations.

Gen. Moore is a U.S. Air Force officer and command pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours in 30 types of aircraft. He has served as a T-38 instructor pilot, an operational F-15 pilot and as an experimental test pilot. He also served as commander of the first F-22 squadron as well as a group commander at Eglin AFB, FL, Materiel Wing Director of the F-16 System Program Office, and Vice Commander of the Aeronautical Systems Center.

Previous assignments include Chief of Air Operations for Multi-National Forces-Iraq in 2004 and Director of Special Programs for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics in 2008.

The program has come under fire from some members of Congress. Earlier this week, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) sent out a Tweet blasting the program for a $771 million cost overrun on the first 28 of the airplanes to be produced. McCain called the overrun "outrageous," and said he plans to introduce a floor amendment when the DoD appropriations bill is debated in the Senate to put the program on "probation."

The AFA Air Force Breakfast Program is a monthly series that provides a venue for senior Air Force and Department of Defense leaders to communicate directly with the public and the press.
