Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit, UAVs Headline Virginia Fly-In

Ten Exhibitors Will Have Unmanned Aircraft On Display

The Commemorative Air Force's Red Tail Squadron's Rise Above Tuskegee Airmen exhibit as well as a rare P-51C will be prime attractions at the 17th Virginia Regional Festival of Flight. Plus, for the first time, 10 exhibitors will be showing and demonstrating Unmanned Aerial Systems, commonly known as drones.

Pilots, aircraft owners and anyone interested in aviation will want to attend this May 31-June 1 event at the Suffolk Executive Airport (KSFQ) about 40 miles west of Virginia Beach. On Sunday at 1:00pm Tiger Airshows will present a one hour air show preceded by a flag jump by Skydive Suffolk. The airport will be closed by NOTAM during the air show.

Saturday, enjoy a large Car and Motorcycle show. And, Sunday volunteer pilots will give Young Eagle rides after the air show for ages 8-17. Kids will also enjoy many hands-on aviation-related activities in and around the Youth Tents.

Throughout the weekend, speakers will present aviation forums and workshops, many approved for FAA Wings or AMT credit.  Get tips and hands-on instruction in a TIG welding workshop from Charlie Collier, a master welder with 40 years of experience.

In a special presentation, Bill Harrelson will tell his amazing story of designing and building a heavily modified Lancair IV and then breaking a solo non-stop record by flying from Guam to St. Augustine, Florida, 6000+ miles.

Aircraft and aviation-related vendors will display aircraft throughout the weekend and have the opportunity to give demo flights.

For the first time, free WiFi will be available throughout the display area. Each day enjoy a pancake breakfast, 8am to 11am. A variety of  other food vendors will be offering tasty treats and full meals.

In a major change this year, there is no grass ultralight runway. If you fly in you will have one active runway, 04-22, and one approach procedure. Be sure to study the clearly illustrated approach procedure on the web site. Before arriving at the initial point on the approach, listen to the AWOS and follow the inbound traffic to the active runway while monitoring UNICOM. Log onto our new Facebook page for regular updates.

Fly-in hours are 8-5 on Saturday, 8-4 Sunday. You'll find free parking for cars and aircraft and free under-the-wing camping. Reserve a space for your RV early on our web site in order to snag one with an electrical hookup. Admission is $10 for drive-ins, $5 for fly-ins, per person. Kids 14 and under are free.
