Global SuperTanker Deployed To South America

Will Join The Effort To Fight Massive Wildfires In The Amazon

The Global SuperTanker modified Boeing 747 has been dispatched to South America to fight wildfires that have been burning near the border of Bolivia and Brazil.

The SuperTanker left Sacramento-McClellan Airport Thursday night and arrived in Bolivia’s Viru Viru International Airport early Friday morning and immediately went to work, according to a report from Fox News.

Fires in the Amazon rainforest are common during the dry season, according to the report, but this year they have been much more widespread. Deforestation has been cited as one of the reasons. Brazilian state officials say some 77,000 wildfires have been reported across the country in 2019, up 85 percent over 2018.

The Global SuperTanker is capable of carrying nearly 20,000 gallons of retardant.
