Maintenance Changes to Legacy 600, Lineage 1000
Embraer Services & Support announced a new maintenance program for their Legacy 600 and Lineage 1000 business jets at the 2021 Dubai Air Show. For those operating the Legacy 600 and 650 aircraft, Embraer has done away with the need for an intermediate stop for low utilization customers, allowing the inspection package of tasks formerly completed every 6 months to now be extended to an annual inspection for low-use operators.
The announcement is good news for those operators with a total of 291 aircraft. Legacy 600s account for the slight majority at 157 in operation, with their Legacy 650 sibling making up 108 of the flight. The ultra-large Lineage 1000, a derivation of the successful E190 commercial aircraft, entered the market in 2009, with a 2014 update to today's 1000E. Takeup has been limited for business customers, with only 26 in operation today.
The Lineage 1000 received similar ease in upkeep, after Embraer eliminated the requirement to remove the forward auxiliary fuel tanks during the 48-month check and placed it into the 96-month check. They believe the change will be a benefit to those owners in maintaining a Lineage 1000, simplifying, streamlining, and reducing maintenance costs of a not-inconsiderable process. Reduced costs with maximized uptime is the goal for these owners, minimizing wasted funding and inefficient retreading when keeping an infrequently-used business aircraft in peak condition.
The changes are the result of analysis and review applied to fleet field data across the entirety of Embraer's Service Center Network. The company has kept looking for ways to add convenience for operators and decrease unneeded or repetitive inspection tasks, and the changes could help defray the costs and enhance the utility of the aircraft.
