Will Participate In The Opening General Session Of The Orlando Gathering

Christopher A. Hart, acting chairman of the NTSB and President Obama’s nominee to head the agency, will speak at the Opening General Session of NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2014), which runs Oct. 21 to 23 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.

“We welcome Acting Chairman Hart (pictured) to NBAA2014, and are excited to hear his thoughts and perspectives on safety issues affecting our industry,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “His appearance continues a long tradition of NTSB representatives speaking during the convention, and underscores NBAA’s commitment to aviation safety.”

Hart was sworn in as a member of the NTSB Board in August 2009 and designated by President Obama for a two-year term as vice chairman of the board later that month. He was nominated by Obama for a second term as board member in August 2013 and a third term as vice chairman in October 2013. Hart has served as acting NTSB chairman since April 26, 2014, and in July 2014, he was nominated by the president to serve as chairman of the NTSB.

Previously, he was a member of the NTSB board from 1990 to 1993. After leaving the board, he served as deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, before moving to the FAA in 1995. Hart was deputy director for air traffic safety oversight at the FAA, previously serving as the agency’s assistant administrator for system safety.

Before his work at the FAA, Hart held a series of legal positions, mostly in the private sector. He holds a law degree from Harvard University and master's and bachelor's degrees in aerospace engineering from Princeton University. He is a licensed pilot with commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings.Hart will be one of several speakers at the NBAA2014 Opening General Session on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Enterprise Holdings Executive Chairman Andrew C. Taylor also will discuss the benefits business aviation has brought to his company at the session.
