KSMO Closing Runway For FAA GIS Survey

No Operations To Be Conducted February 6th From 0900 To 1200 Local Time

The City of Santa Monica has notified airport users that KSMO will be closed Tuesday morning for a required FAA survey.

A message from Airport Director Stelios Makrides was distributed by the City Manager's office informing the community of the closure.

"This email is to inform you that the airport will be closed to all traffic on Tuesday, February 6th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (3 hours). The purpose of the closure is to complete the FAA GIS post-construction survey. The FAA requires this survey to be completed in order to ensure that accurate data is obtained and documented for the new runway configuration.

"Since there will be men and equipment throughout the airfield we ask that any maintenance facility repositioning aircraft coordinate an escort with Airport Operations ahead of time.

"The NOTAM for the closure will be issued three days prior to February 6th."
