Panther Added To FAA's Amateur-Built Aircraft Kit List

Includes Multiple Variants Of The Airplane

The FAA's National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) recently completed an on-site evaluation of the Sport Performance Aviation LLC Panther program, and has added the airplane to its approved kit list.

In its evaluation, it was determined that the kit may allow an amateur builder to meet the major portion requirement for assembly as prescribed by Federal Aviation Regulations.

According to SPA, the inspection included all models and upgrade options available at this time from SPA, including:

  • Panther LS - Tail Dragger
  • Panther LS - Tri-Gear
  • Panther Sport - Tail Dragger
  • Panther Sport - Tri-Gear
  • Factory Built Main Wing Spars
  • Factory Bonded Canopy Upgrade
  • Factory Built Fuel Tanks

In the letter provided to SPA by the FAA, the agency says that the evaluation does not mean that the Panther aircraft of SPA is "certified, certificated or approved," and it is inappropriate to represent either as such.

The Panther is a single seat, low wing, experimental kit aircraft offered by SPA. It features a large cockpit, folding wings and a myriad of features and options for the homebuilder.
