Aperture Vision System Makes its way to OEMs as Part of Avionics Package
Universal Avionics has obtained TSO authorization for the first Aperture visual data management solution as it moves to full serial production for an unnamed avionics OEM.
Universal said the approval "clears the way for initial delivery of the system for enhancing safety and improving decision-making for flight crews and mission specialists”. The news comes only a few short years after the introduction of the Aperture system at NBAA-BACE 2021, and will now allow the delivery & integration of Aperture systems on new-production aircraft. Aperture is able to process 8 video inputs and 4 video outputs simultaneously, with "near-zero latency", allowing for real time environmental monitoring on the flight deck with unified imagery. The resulting synthetic vision enhances situational awareness throughout every flight, no matter the weather conditions.
Given the relative youth of the system, Aperture has plenty of room to grow, with additional capabilities under development all the time. Universal Avionics will include additional video and sensor channels, low latency video aggregation and manipulation, as well as next-generation symbology. Further developments will enable pilots to take advantage of real-time content analysis and augmented reality, such as visual positioning, obstacle detection, taxi guidance, and traffic awareness, leveraging Universal’s extensive competencies in vision systems.
“The TSO authorization of Aperture is a critical step in the development of an innovative solution that will change how we use video in aircraft,” said Dror Yahav, CEO of Universal Avionics. “This approval validates the technology and allows us to continue to innovate solutions for the future.”
