Saturday Is National Model Aviation Day

Events Are Being Held Nationwide To Celebrate The Sport

Saturday is National Model Aviation Day, and around the country, model aviation enthusiasts are getting together to celebrate their sport.

National Model Aviation Day was created to encourage clubs to celebrate the hobby and share it with the public. The Academy of Model Aeronautics' chartered clubs have also been asked to conduct a fundraiser to provide assistance to a worthy cause. For the third year in a row, all club efforts will support the Wounded Warrior Project.

Together, approximately 200 of AMA’s clubs have contributed a total of $176,000 to support the Wounded Warrior Project’s full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families. The AMA has encouraged all 2,350 of its chartered clubs to participate in the fundraiser this year.

The AMA Foundation exists to inspire the financial support of aeromodeling, a hobby, sport and scientific pursuit, as a legitimate and necessary component of the full aviation continuum, contributing significantly to the betterment of American society through a Congressionally-recognized community-based organization. The AMA Foundation was established in 2013 to serve as a supporting organization that will fundraise and grant funds exclusively for and on behalf of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, founded in 1936.
