Pratt & Whitney Claims Efficiency Increase For PurePower Engine

Says 'Technology Breakthrough' Will Mean A Two Percent Fuel Burn Reduction On A320neo Aircraft

Pratt & Whitney has announced what it calls another technology breakthrough on the PurePower engine – an additional 2 percent fuel burn enhancement on the PW1100G-JM engine for the Airbus A320neo aircraft family. The company says the additional fuel burn savings is in addition to the 15 percent the engine already offers. The PurePower Engine Advantage for the PW1100G-JM engine allows for increased fuel efficiency by enhancing aerodynamics and cooling improvements in the model's architecture.

"The increased fuel burn savings on this Geared Turbofan engine model will help drive unbeatable operating efficiency on the A320neo aircraft," said Dave Brantner, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines. "Enhancing fuel burn savings is one example of Pratt & Whitney's drive to constantly improve on mature technology that will benefit engine durability and reliability for customers."

To date the PurePower engine family has completed nearly 10,000 hours of testing, including more than 1,400 flight test hours.
