Video of the accident from Polish television shows a Christen Eagle II biplane entering a near vertical dive at the end of a maneuver and failing to recover before it hit the Vistula River. The Associated Press reports that TVN24 identified the pilot as Marek Szufa, a pilot for the Polish airline LOT and an experienced aerobatic performer.

Rescue workers rushed by boat to the site of the impact, and extracted Szufa from the airplane. But he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The show had been organized by the Air Club of Mazovia in Central Poland.
