Fairchild Controls Earns USAF Contract For C-130 Air Turbines

Will Resume Production After Over A Decade

EADS North America’s Fairchild Controls business unit tells ANN the company will soon restart the production of TP-25 air turbine motors for the C-130 Hercules airlifter under US Air Force contract.

The award enables Fairchild Controls to resume new OEM (original equipment manufacturer) production of the air turbine motors for the first time in over a decade. Fairchild Controls previously built over 2,000 TP-25s during a 50-year production run that concluded in 1993.

“This order is a top priority at Fairchild Controls, as it strengthens a key link in the supply chain for a truly legendary aircraft that will continue to serve the U.S. Air Force and our allies for many years to come,” said Fairchild Controls President Scott Selle.

The TP-25 is a 25 shaft horsepower turbine that works with an integrated gas turbine compressor and a 20 kVA generator to supply aircraft electrical power, and is used on every Hercules from the original C-130A version through early H models.

The new production order follows several recent US Air Force contracts awards to Fairchild Controls for ongoing TP-25 repair and overhaul servicing.  The air turbine motors covered by these maintenance contracts are being processed at the company’s Frederick, MD facility -- where the new-production TP-25s also are to be produced.
