Textron Aviation unveiled its newest Cessna Citation business jet, the Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2,this week at 2023’s National Business Aviation Association - Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The new light jet occasions a significant evolution of the plane-maker’s popular CJ platform, improving upon its forebears by dint of an updated G3000 avionics suite featuring a factory-installed autothrottle system; optional Enhanced Vision System (EVS) to provide improved clarity and optimized situational awareness; an intuitive touch screen interface; GDL60 aircraft connectivity, including remote transmission of flight plans, automatic database updates, and wireless transmission of aircraft diagnostic data.

The Citation CJ3 Gen2 sports a new entryway step design and assist handle, as well as enhanced lighting for improved visibility. The aircraft’s cabin—which offers standard seating for ten-occupants—features a fully customizable luxury interior that can be configured to accommodate either a fixed side-facing seat, a modern refreshment center for expanded cabinet storage, or a folding side-facing seat by dint of which an additional passenger or luggage may be carried. The cabin also features an optional high-power outlet for a coffee-machine, ice, and trash storage, as well as a cabin master control switch panel.

By way of creature comforts, the CJ3 Gen2 cabin is appointed with new seats featuring base and floor tracking capability and optional swivel functionality; new RGB accent lights by which the cabin may be personalized with changeable, ambient lighting; USB-C power at every seat, as well as wireless charging in the main cabin; top-loading executive and slimline tables; and lighted side pockets for additional storage

At the aircraft’s aft, customers will appreciate the new CoolView skylights by which the CJ3 Gen2’s lavatory is brightened with natural light. Additional lavatory appointments include a new optional sink and vanity design with a dedicated water supply. For added convenience, the Citation CJ3 Gen2 includes an externally serviceable lavatory.

The model is expected to enter service in 2025.

Textron Aviation president and CEO Ron Draper stated: “The Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 is our most comprehensive Gen2 product announcement yet, offering customers proven performance, leading edge technology and an unmatched cabin experience. As a pilot of the CJ3 series, I appreciate the aircraft’s excellent range, payload and efficiency, along with new productivity and comfort features. This announcement is a testament to our vision to be the leader in aviation, inspiring the journey of flight.”

The Citation CJ3 Gen2 was designed with input from a Textron Aviation Customer Advisory Board comprising aircraft owners, pilots, and mechanics.

Textron Aviation senior vice-president of Global Sales and Flight Operations Lannie O’Bannion set forth: “The Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 was designed to feel as good to the pilot as it does to the passenger. The aircraft is built upon two decades of success in the market and is the latest example of Textron Aviation's commitment to constantly innovate and bring the best products and experiences to our customers.”
