Another Presidential Road Trip, Another TFR Violation

It's happened again... Monday, in the skies over Auburn Hills, MI an unidentified pilot was hustled out of restricted airspace as President Bush visited the United Solar Ovonic plant.

A pair of F-16s from nearby Selfridge Air National Guard Base -- the same base where Air Force One had landed earlier in the day -- were deployed to direct the intruder away from the restricted airspace. Both jets reportedly popped off a couple of flares to get the GA pilot's attention, then followed the aircraft outside the TFR boundary.

NOTAM 6/2043 was in effect at the time. The FAA published the TFR the Friday before.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory told the Associated Press the pilot faces a range of possible consequences over the violation.

"If we find a violation we will look at the penalties," she said. They can range from a letter of correction to a certificate of revocation."

President Bush was visiting the plant, which makes solar cells, as part of his recent stumping for alternative energy sources.
