Airborne 08.30.19: Congressman v FAA, Midwest LSA Expo, UK Army Couple

Also: ICAO Flight Plan, Indoor Skydiving 2020, A-10 Sustainment Contract, DeltaHawk Donates

The late Will Rogers once intoned that, "Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for...." and in the case of some truly anti-aviation rhetoric from yet another instant Congressional aero-expert, what we are getting from the government still seems like way too much, indeed.

Hawaiian Congressman Ed Case has announced that he will introduce a measure in the House ofRepresentatives to impose incredibly strict regulations on commercial aerial tour operations. Why? Apparently; because they occasionally crash and make noise... Case’s proposed “Safe and Quiet Skies Act” would direct the FAA, which has exclusive jurisdiction over such aircraft, to adopt much tighter recommendations. The Midwest LSA Expo begins its second decade this September. The free event features many Light Sport Aircraft, including Part 103, STOL (Short Take off and Land) and Gyroplanes on one easily accessible and demo friendly flightline. Participants can sit in one or many informative aviation seminars/forums presented by the best in the industry. The expo will be held at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport (KMVN) in Mt. Vernon, Illinois September 5 - 7, 2019. Admission, parking, local shuttles and camping are all free at the event. Two members of the U.K. Army have embarked on a three-week journey that will take them to all 48 contiguous United States in a Cessna 150 in an attempt to set a world record and raise money for charity. Reservist engineer Sapper Tess Morris-Paterson will be flying the 150, while her partner, Royal Medical Corps Captain Morag Morris-Paterson will be along for the ride. Their flight is to benefit Wings for Warriors, a U.K. registered charity, which gives wounded, injured or sick servicemen and women a future worth fighting for, by training them as professional pilots. according to the charity's website. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
