Integrated Multifunction Standby Unit Displays Airspeed, Attitude, Altitude, Other Data On A Single Instrument
An Integrated Multifunction Standby Unit (IMSU) for a variety of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters has been introduced by Innovative Solutions & Support. The IMSU measures, processes and displays altitude, attitude, airspeed, slip/skid and navigation display information into an intuitive and concise single instrument display.
The IMSU display format uses a Primary Flight Display (PFD) and Horizontal Situation Indication (HSI) to enhance situational awareness and reduce pilot workload. It features a high resolution LCD display with full LED backlighting improving component reliability and readability for pilots. The graphics are fully anti-aliased with unprecedented accuracy and detail. The display brightness adapts for cockpit lighting conditions via an integrated ambient light sensor.
“The IMSU includes the latest breakthrough in MEMS Gyro technology coupled with the unparalleled history of IS&S air data, RVSM and Flat Panel Display System (FPDS) product experience”, stated IS&S President Shahram Askarpour. “Combining advanced display technology with a versatile interface capability this product is suitable for retrofit and OEM applications.”
IMSU incorporates an integral Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) including accelerometer, gyro and magnetometer triads. Utilizing these highly accurate data sensors along with a Directional Gyro (DG) mode the IMSU features 7 degrees per hour heading stability without use of external magnetometers. The IMSU includes an integral air data module to measure static and total pressure for independent display of altitude, airspeed and Mach number.
The unit has an optional battery module that provides one hour of operation of the unit during emergency conditions or complete electrical system failures. Options for the IMSU include NVIS, external magnetometer interface, Standby Radio Management Unit, alternate navigator functionality and RVSM compliance.
