Society Of Aviation & Flight Educators To Be "What We Had
Hoped NAFI Could Have Become"
Moving forward from
this weekend's announcement of plans to launch
a new group for flight instructors dissatisfied with recent
developments at National Association of Flight Instructors, on
Monday Take Back Our NAFI (TBO-NAFI) formally announced the
formation of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators.
SAFE is billed by its founders as "a new, independent
organization to represent the nation's professional aviation
educators," and comes after
months of discontent within NAFI over a number
of managerial issues and alleged misconduct by
the association's Board of Directors.
"SAFE will be the organization that we had hoped NAFI could have
become." said Doug Stewart, spokesperson for SAFE. "We are forming
this society on the tenets of professionalism, fairness,
transparency and accountability. Our goal is to help our industry
create safer, more knowledgeable and more confident pilots by
providing instructors with resources, products and services in
concert with industry partners and the FAA."
The new organization says its members & supporters have
already ratified a set of by-laws, "that establish a member centric
governance process where all of the organization's Board of
Directors will be elected by the membership." SAFE officials note
that governance model is followed by other similar organizations,
"and was one of the key changes requested by members."
SAFE will solicit nominations for its Board of Directors
immediately, with democratic elections to follow soon
thereafter.
