Boeing Seeks PA State Grant For Aircraft Modification Center

Would Be Used To Standardize V-22 Osprey Aircraft

Boeing has applied for a $30 million state redevelopment grant from the state of Pennsylvania to convert a vacant industrial building at its Ridley Park campus into an aircraft modification facility.

The Philadelphia Enquirer reports that the total cost of the project is estimated at $64.0 million. The building is at the Boeing Philadelphia complex in Delaware County.

Boeing intends to use the facility to standardize V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft that had been built with for specific purposes and in multiple production runs, according to the grant application received by the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

Production of the V-22 has tapered off in recent years, and the program is expected to end in 2025 after the manufacture of 169 aircraft, according to a Teal report.

Boeing said in the grant application that the new facility would “generate significant economic employment over the next 10-20 years,” and account for about 450 jobs in the region.
