Ada, OK City Schools Get Boost For Aviation Program

Receives $15,000 Grant From The State Aeronautics Commission

The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has awarded a $15,000 grant to Ada City Schools to help establish its new aviation program.

The grant was one of 25 made to organizations across the state totalling $270,000. They will be used to educate Oklahoma student in STEM careers, according to a commission news release.

The Ada News reports that the city schools will use the one-year grant to help fund a program called "The Sky is Not the Limit" designed to introduce students to career opportunities in the aviation industry. It will cover costs such as professional development opportunities for teachers and supplies for classes.

The school system had initially requested over $25,000, but the Aviation Commission staff reduced that amount in order to offer funding to as many program as possible.

The school district launched its aviation curriculum last spring, according to the report. The class is currently only open to high school freshmen because the district is "field testing" the course. In the future, it will be expanded to include all high school grades.
