FAA Changes Names Of South Florida Departure Fixes

Reacts To Comments Made By Donald Trump About Immigration

The flap over immigration comments made by Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has filtered all the way down to the FAA.

The agency recently said it would change the designation of three navigation fixes near Palm Beach International Airport (KPBI) that had been named for the real estate mogul. The Washington Post reports that an air traffic controller had named the fixes "DONLD, TRMMP, and UFIRD."

Apparently the controller was a big fan.

Trump says he was not aware that he had aviation navigation fixes named for him. He said through his lawyer "Making America Great Again' is far more important to me than an honor I never knew I had."

FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said in an email to the paper that they generally the FAA "chooses names that are non-controversial," and that the process of changing the names is already underway.
