Test Pilot Reports "Only A Couple Of Minor Squawks"
The 5th Evolution by Lancair, an owner-built, four place,
pressurized, turbine powered single, took its first flight in Bend,
Oregon on Monday, May 24, 2010.
Built and owned by Dr. Andres Katz of Dallas, Texas, and his
partner Jim Thompson, the beautiful white, black, red and silver
aircraft took off on its maiden flight after several high-speed
taxi runs and a final pre-flight inspection. Flown by test pilot
Pete Zaccagnino of High Performance Aircraft Training, the
thirty-minute first flight of the PT-6A powered Evolution consisted
of several orbits over the Bend Airport in Central Oregon with the
landing gear extended. Pete returned the aircraft after the
uneventful flight and pronounced the flight a complete success with
only a couple minor squawks.
A second inspection was completed and another successful flight
was performed which included gear retraction and basic handling
checks. This Evolution is one of several slated to fly this summer
will be followed by another very soon. Lancair is very pleased with
the build quality and short construction time that their customers
are achieving with this unprecedented high performance aircraft
kit.
Lancair plans to display the evolution at all the major General
Aviation Airshows, Flying Magazine's Parade of Planes events, The
Cirrus Migration and various dealer and private events over the
course of the summer.
