EASA Raises TBO For Austro Engine’s AE300 To 1,500 Hours

Up From 1,000 Hours In Less Than A Year

EASA has raised the Time Between Overhaul (TBO) for the Austro Engine AE300 170 hp turbocharged Jet-A1 and diesel engine to 1,500 hours. In less than a year, the agency has increased the TBO from 1,000 to 1,500 hours after an interim TBO of 1,2000 hours.

In a news release, the Wiener Neustadt (Austria)-based manufacturer says that the TBO increase "proves once again the high quality and durability of this power plant."  The engine overhaul price, set at approximately $22,000 (EUR 16,700) or about $15.00 (EUR 11.13) per flight hour, is the cheapest in the industry, the company says.

Austro Engines also said that going forward, only one part of the AE300 is lifetime-limited within the TBO period. Austro Engine’s customers benefit from lower downtimes and reduced total operational costs per engine.

The engine is a liquid-cooled in-line 4-cylinder engine with a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) design. Power is proved by an integrated turbo charger. It is controlled by a single-lever electronic system.
