AeroSports Update: Race Plane Project Wants Your Help

The DT6 Will Be A Challenger For The International Formula One World Air Racing Championship

Formula One air racing got its start back in 1947 when a new category of airplane was developed to encourage high performance with each airplane being required to meet the same standards. It has now progressed into international competition, and the Triano Racing team says they can build a plane that will lead the pack.

A new Formula One race plane is being proposed and the builder is seeking financial help on the indiegogo.com website. After five years of intense design and preparation, the Triano Racing team is now ready to build two DT6 racers. This campaign will fund the construction of the aircraft, and they are asking that aviation enthusiasts worldwide be the driving force behind the realization of these beautiful racers.

The DT6 Formula One Air Racer is the brainchild of Advanced Transportation Designer Dave Triano. Dave is the creator of over 180 vehicles in the Aerospace, Marine and Automotive industries over the last 27 years, and has a 40-year history working with advanced composite materials. Dave has built many experimental aircraft, and currently owns a fast and beautiful Q-200. He has been working on the DT6 project for five years.

This campaign will fund the construction of two DT6 aircraft, one for racing and development in the United States and the other devoted to worldwide Formula One competition in the AirRace1 World Cup. The project costs are separated into four main groups: Tooling, Construction Materials, Engines and other Systems, and Labor. The website provides a breakdown of the costs involved and a video introduces you to Dave Triano as he explains the project. The website also explains the various donation packages and their benefits.

Formula One racers are limited to an engine size of 200 cubic inches and must have a fixed pitch prop. To be competitive, the airplane will need to have a speed that pushes close to 300 miles per hour. It's pretty amazing when you think about it because a 200 cubic inch engine is the same size of engine that is mounted to the Cessna 150.
