Air Tractor Unveils Newest Model

FAA Certification Of 502XP Expected 'Soon'

Air Tractor took the wraps of its newest variant at its annual dealers meeting Friday.

The Air Tractor 502XP ... for "Extra Power" ... features a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT61-140AG engine. In a news release, Air Tractor president Jim Hirsch said the 502XP "is a remarkable combination of power, stability and productivity. It really performs and flies well with a full 500-gallon load in high and hot conditions."

The Times Record newspaper reports that Hirsch said that the more powerful engine means that the airplane will be able to carry full loads on hot days. "It will continue hauling the load all day, every day no matter the temperature. It’s got an extra margin of performance a  lot of pilots will appreciate,” he said.

The FAA is expected to certify the new airplane "soon", according to Air Tractor.
