Pilot Arrested After Landing On Freeway

Accused Of Flying Drunk

The pilot of an Ercoup that made a messy emergency landing on a freeway in Santa Clarita (CA) Saturday has been arrested for flying while under the influence of alcohol.

Marc South, 53, of Eloy (AZ) was arrested after his small plane clipped a van and flipped over on the freeway, according to local media reports. While the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office wouldn't release the results of a blood-alcohol test performed on South, California law states a pilot is legally drunk if his blood contains more than 0.04 percent alcohol. The legal limit for drivers in California is 0.08 percent.

The Ercoup was flying from La Verne (CA) to Sacramento when South says the engine quit. He landed on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5.
