New Hampshire Flight School Set For Major Expansion

Air Direct Airways Flight Academy Partnering With Southern New Hampshire University

A new partnership between Air Direct Airways Flight Academy in Nashua, NH and Southern New Hampshire Univeristy will give students who might not normally be able to afford to pursue a career in aviation to achieve that dream.

The Union Leader newspaper reports that the catalyst for the idea was the recent acquisition of the former Daniel Webster College, which is adjacent to Nashua Airport (KASH), by SNHU. The university purchased DWC's former flight center, tower building and hangar from just $410,000 at auction, according to the report.

What they have developed is a model that university officials say is cost effective and fits into the four-year curriculum at SNHU, giving them the ability to offer a bachelor of science degree in aviation science as well as graduating as a certified flight instructor.

The program will have a maximum of 30 students enrolled next year, who will have the opportunity to fly twice per day. But the time they finish the program, students will have accumulated up to 1,000 hours of flying time, which will give them an opportunity to move quickly into airline jobs.

The tuition at SNHU for the program is about $30,000 per year. The school will work with air Direct Airways, which has been in operation since 1973, to provide the flight instruction. Because if the agreement with the school, ADA is anticipating hiring 12 more flight instructors and acquiring about 20 more airplanes to handle the workload.
