Air Canada Plans To Hire 350 Pilots Next Year

Announcement Anticipates A Return To Service Of The 737 MAX

Air Canada will need to hire some 350 pilots next year as the Boeing 737 MAX returns to service.

Currently, the airplane has been taken off the Air Canada schedule through Valentine's Day, 2020. But when the carrier takes delivery of all the MAX aircraft it has on order, it will represent 24 percent of its narrow-body fleet.

Air Canada has taken delivery of 24 737 MAX airliners. An additional 12 have been completed and are waiting for delivery when the worldwide grounding is lifted.

The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) reports that, in a conference call with industry analysts, Air Canada CEO Calin Rovinescu said that those deliveries will take place over time. "This is not an overnight process," he said.
