ANN's 'Who's Who' At Oshkosh: Dan Billingsley

Introducing Staff, Stringers, Videographers, And People Who Make It All Work

Anyone who's ever been to Oshkosh knows that there are hundreds of events and activities as well as tens of thousands of people that descend (some quite literally) on Wittman Regional Airport in mid-summer. While we have a very hard-working and dedicated staff, ANN could not provide you with the extensive information we do without the help of some equally ... some might say more ... dedicated volunteers who give a week of their time to make sure you have the best possible coverage of the show. As we lead up to this year's edition of AirVenture, we'll be introducing you to the people that make all of that possible.

Dan Billingsley: Vidographer

Dan started flying airplanes at the ripe old age of 8. Of course, they had two strings attached to them as he maneuvered them in the center...Up – Down & Round and Round... "wait, I'm getting dizzy." That first plane was a Cox PT-19 trainer and he flew that thing till he couldn't see straight, but he knew he was hooked. From that point forward Dan would build several control line planes and now looks back on that time as the glow plug that sparked his interest in aviation.

Fast forward 35 years when Dan started to think he wanted to fly again...only this time in the big-boy planes. After getting his ticket, he decided he was going to build another plane...and this time it turned out to be a Kitfox IV. "Luckily," he says, "I don't have to hand prop this one and I usually don't get dizzy."

When Dan's not dreaming of aviation he teaches high school welding, woods and video productions in Mesa, Arizona. Dan is married and has one son who is an engineer with maritime oil and cargo ships. Dan says he enjoys working with the Aero-News Network clan and looks forward to meeting many of you at this years AirVenture.
