Texas Pilot Charged With Bigamy

Owner Of Fort Worth Rental And Training Company Was Living With Two Women In Different Suburbs

File this one under "oh what a tangled web we weave." The owner of a flight training and airplane rental company in Fort Worth, TX, has been charged with bigamy after it was discovered he had not divorced his first wife before marrying his second.

Germain Gardea's second wife is also his partner in the aviation business. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Gardea had married his second wife on the same day as he filed for divorce in the first marriage. He had reportedly been living with both women in different suburbs about 17 miles apart.

The situation unraveled when the second wife looked into payments being made to Gardea by the first wife. When she called to ask about them, she found out that the couple was not quite divorced yet. The local police said that the first wife was completely unaware of the new bride. It was not even certain that she was aware he had filed the divorce papers. She did not show up at a divorce hearing, and had not responded to the 2009 filing. She has since begun her own divorce proceedings.

The first wife believes Gardea forged her signature on a false divorce decree, which he used to convince his second wife he was no longer married. He was arrested on Oct. 11, and is free on $2,000 bond. There was no word on whether he was still living with the second wife, or the state of their business.
