British Police Charge Another Suspect In Terror Plot

Also Freeze Charity's Assets

Police in Britain charged a 12th person Thursday in connection with the thwarted conspiracy to blow up airliners bound for the United States two weeks ago.

Umair Hussain, 24, was one of 25 people arrested since police staged pre-dawn raids on August 10, in connection with the alleged plot.

Since that time, five have since been released without any charges filed... while eight of the 11 others charged appeared in a British court Tuesday.

Five other suspects are being held in Pakistan.

Agence-France Presse reports that under the Terrorism Act 2000 ruling, authorities in the UK may detain the eight remaining suspects for 28 days without pressing charges, with the approval of . Police currently have the court's permission to hold those suspects through August 30.

Meanwhile, British authorities have frozen bank accounts connected with the Crescent Relief charitable organization, while they conduct an investigation into whether funds raised by the group were used to fund the plot.

As Aero-News reported earlier this week, Crescent Relief was founded by Abdul Rauf, obstensibly to support victims of last year's devastating earthquakes in Pakistan. He is father of Rashid Rauf... who is one those suspects now being held in Pakistan over the terror plot.
