Initial Order of Sustainable Fuel Comes to Geneva
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will soon be offered at Geneva Airport (GVA), offering Swiss operators a chance to take part in sustainable aviation ahead of widespread industry use.
The change coincides with the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, set to be held from May 23rd to the 25th. Every new event is a good chance to bring some visibility to the shift to sustainable fuels, a brief moment when local operators have their attention focused on industry issues. The rollout of SAF will prove key to the industry's greater plan to hit a net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
Jet Aviation will provide the SAF to Geneva, having completed their first shipment of the new fuel on May 19th. Coinciding with EBACE 2023, other companies are throwing their weight behind the SAF push, too. Avfuel Corporation is adding its supply of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel to airports for use in EBACE-bound flights from the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas; Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in Kansas; and Melbourne Orlando International Airport in Florida.
“EBACE offers an important opportunity to showcase the promise of sustainable aviation fuels as part of our comprehensive strategy for achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the years ahead,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We thank the leaders who are stepping forward to make availability of the fuel a centerpiece of the convention.”
“EBACE2023 highlights the immense potential of sustainable aviation fuels, propelling us towards an aviation industry that fully embraces environmental responsibility,” said EBAA Chairman Juergen Wiese. “With the capacity to slash greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% already today, we look forward to even more renewable alternative feedstocks and exciting upcoming methods of producing fuel from municipal waste as well as water, air and renewable energy sources. Together, we forge a greener future for business aviation.”
