Two Dead In AZ Legend Accident

Pilot, Passenger Were Returning From Airshow

Aero-News regrets to report two men returning from a weekend airshow at La Cholla Airpark (57AZ) in Tucson, AZ were killed when their Legend turboprop kitplane went down after takeoff Saturday.

Owner and pilot Tom Tingle (above, with his plane) and his passenger, Jerry Miller, had just taken off for the return trip to Carefree, AZ when the plane’s engine apparently "seized" shortly after takeoff, said Tingle’s wife to the Associated Press.

"Tom loved aviation and he loved that airplane," Soffie Tingle said. "... We never had any problems with it."

Both men wore parachutes, and witnesses said the men had tried to get out of the aircraft before it went down, according to media reports.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the accident.
