FAA Offers GNS-530/430 Training Video Seminar

The latest generation of high-tech avionics requires a little study in order to get the hang of the many capabilities that they present. The FAA, of course, is well aware of this and has recently made available an online tutorial program for Garmin 530/430 users - for FREE.

The program consists of six units, each of which is approximately 45 minutes to one-hour duration.

The program will take you through the pages of the GNS-530/430, and demonstrate the correct data entry method in order to achieve the anticipated display, and comply with ATC instructions.

The course is offered in two formats, one for Real Player users, another for Windows users. If using Windows or Macintosh software, click on the appropriate link. We suggest that you print the page in order to obtain the instructions, and the table of contents.

The table of contents outlines the topics of each unit, however, we suggest that you begin with unit one and proceed through the entire program. Also, the Pilot Guides for the GNS-530 & 430 are available in PDF format on the site.

The FAA notes that, "Our effort is to assist you to avoid the human factor errors that may hinder your operation of the GNS-530/430. To accomplish improving your operational understanding of the GNS-530/430, we employed scenario based demonstrations and explanations of the various navigation procedures performed with the GNS-530/430."
