Helicopter Called In For Bear Rescue In Russia

Captive Animals Trapped By Flooding

As rising floodwaters forced the evacuation of about 20,000 people from the far eastern region of Russia, the Emergency Situations Ministry came to the rescue of two bears that live in a cage close to a campsite near the city of Blagoveshchensk. The rescue required a helicopter to airlift the bears to safety.

In a ministry video reposted by the U.K. newspaper The Times, the helo can be seen hovering over the animals’ cage while workers quickly secure it to a hoist. The cage containing the bears is then lifted and carried to higher ground.

The flooding is said to be the worst in the region in 120 years. Some 140 towns have been affected, according to paper.

After being set back on the ground, the bears appear to be none the worse for their trip, moving about their cage as if nothing had happened.

Kind of give new meaning to the phrase "we've got  a bear in the air, good buddy."
