Flight 1549 Survivors Find They Have A Lot In Common

Surviving The "Miricle On The Hudson" Led To Romance

As first dates go, it's probably really not recommended, and possibly not even recognizable as a date. But when the airplane you're on suffers a bird strike and lands safely in the Hudson River, it's possible that could cause a bond between people, don't you think?

That's what has happened for Ben Bostic and Laura Zych, both of whom were on US Airways Flight 1549 when it went down. The didn't formally meet until they appeared on a "60 Minutes" segment taped in Charlotte, NC, with Captain Sullenberger. According to New York Magazine, the romance didn't bloom until Bostic attended a gathering arranged through a survivors Facebook group at the home of another Charlotte resident who was also a passenger on the plane.

Long story short, Bostic and Zych wound up talking on Zych's front porch after that gathering until 0600, and they have been dating ever since.

The passengers of Flight 1549 are planning to get together in New York in January. Meanwhile, the magazine reports that Bostic and Zych have taken to dancing to their favorite music every day, as a way to decompress from the stress of everyday life. “Just so that your day ends on a good note,”  said Zych.
