Rolls Royce To Build US, Singapore Engine Plants

Virginia Plant To Supply Turbofan For Upcoming Dassault Jet

Business is booming for commercial and business aircraft manufacturers... which means times are also good for the companies supplying engines for those planes.

Britain's Rolls-Royce announced Tuesday it will establish plants in Singapore and the United States to meet burgeoning demand for its turbofans, reports Reuters.

"These latest investments in world-class facilities are further evidence of our success in aerospace markets and the continuing trend towards the globalization of our operations," said Rolls-Royce CEO Sir John Rose. "They also build on our existing international presence and relationships and will bring us closer to key customers in Asia and the US."

The US plant -- to be located in Prince George County, VA -- will assemble and test the RB282 engine for French firm Dassault Aviation's planned Falcon "super midsize" business jets. As ANN reported, those two companies announced a partnership on the new plane in June.

The Singapore plant will work on larger engines for commercial airliners, starting with the Trent 1000 used on Boeing's 787 Dreamliner.

Rolls-Royce plans to invest $309 million over five years on the two facilities.
