If Only All Emergencies Could Go This Smoothly...

C150 Lands, Takes Off Again From FL Interstate

An emergency landing by a Cessna 150 on Interstate 95 gave lunchtime commuters something to talk about in Ormond Beach, FL Tuesday.

According to the Daytona Beach News Journal, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office received a call about a plane in distress from the Ormond Beach Airport (OMN) control tower at 11:47 am local time.

By that time, the two-seat trainer (type shown at right) had already landed on I-95, just south of US Highway 1. No damage or injuries were reported.

Authorities said the plane's pilot, Eric McRee, was on a training flight with his instructor when the aircraft experienced engine trouble on its way from OMN to Flagler County Airport (XFL) in Bunnell.

The emergency landing briefly shut down southbound I-95, but the lanes were reopened after the plane was moved to the median.

A mechanic from Ormond Beach Aviation, the owner of the aircraft, was dispatched to repair the plane on-site. The nature of those repairs wasn't reported... but they were apparently successful.

Authorities briefly shut down the lanes once again at just after 3:00 pm, so the pilot could take off.
