Lufthansa Hit By Another Pilot Walkout

Fifty Long-Haul Flights Cancelled By 15-Hour Labor Action

Just days after Air France got its pilots back to work, Lufthansa was hit by a 15-hour pilot walkout, forcing the cancellation of 50 long-haul flights.

The labor action took place between 0600 and 2100 local time September 30th at Frankfurt Airport.

Buying Business Travel reports that the Lufthansa strike was called by the Vereinigung Cockpit union. The action was called because the airline has plans to change a pilot benefit that allows some pilots to retire at age 55, but retain a portion of their pay until they can draw a state pension.

The pilots had staged an eight-hour strike earlier this month, the fourth such labor action in three weeks.

In a statement, Lufthansa said: "The continuing strikes by Vereinigung Cockpit cause damage with unforeseeable consequences for all 120,000 employees, including the pilots."
